“Why I Joined PSG”, Super Falcons Captain, Ajibade

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has joined Paris Saint-Germain Féminine on a two-year deal.

Ajibade left Atletico Madrid Feminine at the end of last season after spending five seasons in Spain; she has now joined PSG on a free transfer ahead of the 2025-26 French Arkema Première Ligue.

PSG announced her signing with a statement on their website on Tuesday.

The statement read: “Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the arrival of Nigerian striker Rasheedat Busayo Ajibade, who has joined the club on a deal that runs until 30th June 2027.

“Before moving to PSG, Ajibade plied her trade for Liga F heavyweights Atlético de Madrid, a club that she joined in 2021, following a two-year spell at Norwegian outfit Avaldsnes IL.”

Similarly, Ajibade was delighted to join PSG while expressing her desire to lead the club to silverware in the new season.

She said, “I’m deeply honoured to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, a top-drawer club in Europe. This is a major step for me, and I’m committed to giving my all to help PSG win titles and to inspire young footballers, be they in Nigeria or elsewhere.

“I’m very excited. As soon as I heard that the club was interested, I couldn’t wait to come. I’m very excited and looking forward to the start of the season.

The 2024 WAFCON Player of the tournament described the move as an opportunity for her to grow personally and professionally, while looking forward to playing alongside her Super Falcons teammate, Joe Echegini.

Ajibade said, “Yes, it’s true.” It’s a new challenge. Especially coming to this prestigious club, with incredible talent, incredible players, and incredible people.

“I think that here, I will have the opportunity to grow as a player and as a person and that I have a lot to learn. And I believe that this is the ideal place to develop, learn and become the best version of myself.

“Yes, I think it will play a very important role in my quick integration into the team, because when you join a teammate who you’ve played a lot with in the national team, someone who comes from the same country, it helps you integrate quickly with the rest of the players too.

“We know each other very well. I have the privilege of being the captain of our team, so I have to be in contact with everyone. That means I get to know each and every one of them. And Joe, I call her my sister because she’s a unique person. She’s an extraordinary and exceptional footballer, but also someone who is very pleasant to be around.”

In the 2024–2025 campaign, Ajibade made 25 appearances for Atletico Feminine, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.

PSG finished second behind champions Lyon in the French Women’s League last season in the regular season.

The top four teams from the regular season qualify for the playoffs. In the semi-finals, the team that finished first plays the team which finished fourth. The rest of the two teams would face each other.

Ajibade is expected to make her PSG debut against Lens in the league on September 6.
