Shameloon, Chairman Of MOAN Arrested For Alleged Murder Of Marwa Tricycle Operator, NURTW Boss, Sego, Distances Self

Police in Lagos have arrested Alhaji Adio Shamshudeen, popularly known as Shameloon, Chairman of the Lagos Island branch of the Marwa Operators Association of Nigeria (MOAN), over the death of a 38-year-old man, Rahmon Imam.

Imam, younger brother of the CEO of Sly Bar in Okesuna, was reportedly beaten by Shameloon on Beecroft Street, Lagos Island, last week.

A viral video showed Shameloon assaulting a tricycle operator, and when Imam tried to intervene, he was attacked and beaten into a coma.

He later died in hospital after several days of treatment.

Police said the matter was only reported to Adeniji Adele Police Station after Imam’s death.

Lagos State Police spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed Shameloon’s arrest and said he has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba for thorough investigation, following allegations that he was trying to influence the process at the divisional level.

Adebisi also confirmed reports that, on the same day Imam died, Shameloon allegedly assaulted a dispatch rider who was later taken to Lagos Island General Hospital.

According to the police, the injured dispatch rider is currently on oxygen and under close medical care.

The family of the late Imam has been invited to give statements to investigators.

The incident sparked public anger, particularly after claims that Shameloon often boasted of being close to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

But the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Gboyega Akosile, dismissed such claims, stressing that Sanwo-Olu had nothing to do with the matter and that the state government would allow the law to take its full course.

The Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, also reacted

In a statement titled, ‘Clarification on Recent Incident Involving a NURTW Member,’ he admitted Shameloon was once his loyalist but said he was deeply disappointed by his conduct and completely dissociated himself from the incident.

“While I once trusted his loyalty, I was deeply bitter and disappointed that he could engage in such acts. I want to make it clear that all his actions are his own and do not represent the NURTW in any way,” Adekunle stated.

He urged police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, pledged internal disciplinary action by the union after the legal process, and warned that he would not condone any form of violence or unlawful behaviour from members.

Adekunle expressed condolences to Imam’s family, promised possible support from the union, and appealed to bloggers and social media users not to link him personally to the case.

He reaffirmed the NURTW’s commitment to law, order, and public safety.
