Video footage from a livestream in 2022 captures Hellen Wendy Nyabuto swimming in a motel pool in Canada just moments before tragically drowning. Her body was discovered at the bottom of the pool three hours later by two men who initially mistook her corpse for a poodle.
Nyabuto lived with her younger brother Enock in an apartment in Toronto and worked part-time as a health worker while studying nursing, her family said.
Hellen Wendy Nyabuto, known for her warm smile and charming heart, was a healthcare worker from Kenya who had been living in Canada since 2018. She was working in a long-term care residence outside Toronto. Her dedication to her work was evident, and she was known to lift the spirits of everyone who met her.
The tragic incident occurred at the Key Motel in Chatsworth, Ontario. The motel pool where Hellen drowned was the setting for her last Facebook livestream. In the video, Hellen can be seen smiling and chatting with viewers in the shallow end of the pool before moving into deeper waters. The livestream captured her struggle and her calls for help before the video went silent.
Hellen’s family, including her younger brother Enock, is now trying to repatriate her body back to Kenya.
A GoFundMe page set up by Enock surpassed its goal of 50,000 CAD. The family is eager to bring her remains home for burial.
