My thought on kidnapping of Five Pastors of RCCG

Five (5) Pastors were kidnapped along Benin Ijebu Ode expressway on their way to Minister’s conference holding at Redeemed Christian Camp along Lagos Ibadan Expressway.

Kidnapping is not a new phenomenon in Nigeria but became heightened with the politicization of the crime.

Evans the billionaire notorious kidnapper is still in custody being prosecuted by Nigerian courts, but it took a political dimension when the murderous Hausa Fulani herdsmen got in the mix. It was alleged that the gang that killed Mrs Funke Olakunrin were Hausa Fulani. It was Hausa Fulani that kidnapped Chief Olu Falae in his farm before he was rescued.

Since the advent of President Buhari’s government in 2015, the Hausa Fulani herdsmen have become more daring and notorious in killings and blood lettings. It is trite to say President Buhari had treated them with kid gloves, so it is only a matter of time this criminal gang will go overboard. However it remains unclear those who kidnapped these men of God

The Nigeria elites including the political and wealthy ones felt they were insulated from this vice simply because they have security men at their beck and call that protects and accompany them.

Fortuitously it is becoming more and more obvious that no one is safe again.

The truism that says evil thrives when good men refused to talk is applicable to the current situation. Influential Nigerains that were expected to talk when this trend was rearing its ugly head played the ostrich game: hear no evil speak no evil.

While this was going on many Nigerians were being killed by these evil doers, those that have the wherewithal paid the ransom to be left off kidnappers den. The unfortunate ones have become wasted and became victims of ritual killing.

Of course ordinary Nigerians on the street have given up on Nigerian political class, but one is at a loss of the numbed silence from the religious class. Except some few ones like Rev Father Mathew Kukah that have been consistent in expressing his anger and frustrations over the insecurity situation, others kept mum.

Many like Rev Father Mbaka openly canvassed for support of Buhari’s government, while Pastor Kumuyi implored Nigerians to continue to pray for him and his government despite his obvious failings.

Pastor Adeboye’s case is mixed, quite difficult and he’s at a cross road, because one of his spiritual sons, Pastor Osinbajo is the current Vice President. How do you criticize a government when one of your sons is an active participant.

Pastor Adeboye is one of the few Nigerian men of God I have tremendous respect for because of his famed humility, a scandal free man of God and his doggedness for spiritual matters. But as a man of God he’s expected to stand with truth at all times no matter how hard the situation maybe. This is my grouse with him and there is no way he can be exonerated from this sad episode. The signs had been there all along, it is only a matter of time it will take a dangerous dimension and no one will be excluded. When hapless Nigeria were being kidnapped on daily basis, Papa refused to talk.

Pastor Adeboye was aware when one Professor Of Obafemi Awolowo was Kidnapped and a ransom was paid, Papa did not utter a word. I cant remember Baba talking when the daughter of Pa Fasoranti was killed in broad daylight by suspected kidnappers. Charly Boy and others went on a protest march to Papa’s headquarter though they met his absence to extract a word from Pastor Adeboye but he thereafter he issued an official statement that he aligned with the position of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

But many years ago, Papa threatened to organise a nationwide protest during the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s rule.

It is good Pa Adeboye is calling for prayers but I believe in the age long aphorism that says “We must work and Pray”. Prayers without asking President Buhari to do the his constitutional duty will not solve our security problem

It’s never too late for Pastor Adeboye to do the needful: condemn publicly the precarious security and join others to put pressure on this government to save us from these mindless killings. It’s never too late.

Enough of this mindless killings and avoidable deaths!!!We must all condemn the tardy way President Buhari has been handling affairs of more than 200m Nigerians and the appalling security situation of Nigeria. It is no longer at ease with this nation, everyone is afraid of what may happen at the next moment
