Is President Tinubu Allegedly A CIA Spy?
Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has shared documents from a U.S. court in Washington, D.C., hinting that Nigerian President Bola Tinubu may have connections to American intelligence agencies.
Background of the Legal Case
In 2024, transparency activist Aaron Greenspan partnered with Hundeyin to request the release of Tinubu’s confidential records, which were reportedly gathered by U.S. agencies, including the FBI and CIA, as part of past investigations.
However, U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell denied the request for an urgent hearing, saying that Greenspan hadn’t shown enough reason to rush the release.
The judge also said that Tinubu should have a chance to protect his privacy.
Judge Howell did allow Tinubu’s lawyer to participate in the case but hasn’t yet decided on Tinubu’s full involvement.
The U.S. Department of Justice, represented by Matthew Graves, announced it wouldn’t take a position on whether Tinubu should be part of the case.
Claims of CIA and DEA Involvement
Back in September, the FBI said it would begin releasing Tinubu’s records under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). But on October 23, Tinubu filed to block this release.
Following this, Hundeyin shared claims that the CIA documents suggested Tinubu might be an active CIA asset. According to Hundeyin, the CIA noted that revealing Tinubu’s connections could endanger him and others close to him.
The CIA’s statement read: “Human sources provide information to the CIA only if they trust the CIA will keep their cooperation secret.”
It warned that confirming Tinubu’s involvement with the CIA could harm U.S. security by revealing sensitive information about sources.
At this point, I think there is nothing more to be said about the direct role that the US government plays in ensuring that Africa is constantly destabilised and afflicted with terrible leaders who create poverty and devastation.
Meanwhile, the DEA opposed revealing all details of its investigations into Tinubu’s alleged drug activities. It stated, “While Nigerians have a right to know about their government, they don’t have a right to know everything about their president.
