“Ganduje Using Federal Power To Impose Dethroned Emir Ado Bayero”, Deputy Governor Kano Alleges

Tensions continue to escalate in the ancient city of Kano, with the state’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, leveling explosive accusations against former governor Abdullahi Ganduje as contained in PUNCH NEWS Report.

Gwarzo alleges that Ganduje, now the National Chairman of the ruling APC party, is using his influence and the office of the powerful National Security Adviser to sow chaos. He is smuggling the recently dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, back into the state.

The dramatic allegations came during a press conference held by Gwarzo on Saturday morning at the Emir’s palace in Kano. According to the Deputy Governor, Ganduje facilitated Bayero’s return to the city via a chartered flight with the support of the National Security Adviser’s office.

“It is unfortunate that the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, is using the National Security Adviser to create tension in the state by smuggling into the state the former emir, Aminu Ado Bayero,” Gwarzo stated, his voice laced with frustration.

The Deputy Governor questioned the federal government’s interference in what he described as a purely state matter, stating emphatically, “The appointment and dethronement of Emir or any traditional titleholder is solely the prerogative of the state government.”

Gwarzo’s accusations come just a day after the new governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, ordered the immediate arrest of Bayero for allegedly attempting to forcefully return to the palace. Yusuf deemed this move “disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace the state enjoys.”

The power struggle in Kano erupted on Thursday when Governor Yusuf repealed a 2019 law that had divided the powerful Kano Emirate into five separate territories, each with its own ruler appointed by the previous governor, Ganduje.

Yusuf then swiftly reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano, handing him an official reinstatement letter during a Friday ceremony at the Government House.

As the allegations of federal interference swirl, tensions show no signs of abating in Kano. Gwarzo appealed to residents to do lawful business without fear or intimidation. Still, with supporters of both claimants to the throne taking to the streets, the ancient city remains on edge.
