Dismissal Of This Drunk Policeman Causes The Closure Of Beer Joints In All Lagos Police Formations (pic)
State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has ordered the shutting down of all beer parlours located within police formations in the state.
The decision to shut down the joints was not unconnected with the video on the social media of a Mobile Police Inspector who was caught on camera very drunk and had been dismissed after he was said to have owned up to the shameful act during investigation.
Our correspondent learnt that it was the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, who ordered a full investigation into the video after he was shocked watching it.
Investigation by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, revealed the drunk policeman as Inspector Kadima Useni.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti, who confirmed the dismissal, said it was meant to serve as a deterrent to other policemen who habitually guzzle alcohol while on duty.
Oti said, “The attention of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has been drawn to a video of a Lagos policeman who got drunk at the Akowonjo, Dopemu area of Lagos State. He, therefore, directed the state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, to fish out the erring policeman for appropriate disciplinary action.
“The policeman, who was stupefied after guzzling a large quantity of an alcoholic beverage, was located and apprehended yesterday by the Command Provost at the Police Mobile Force Squadron 22 Base, Ikeja, where he served. He was identified as Inspector Kadima Useni with Appointment Number 176219.
“During interrogation, the officer affirmed that he was the one in the video. He was, therefore, tried in orderly room and summarily dismissed to serve as a deterrent to others.”
Oti added that to prevent a reoccurrence of this type of incident, the Lagos Commissioner of Police had directed the officer in charge of the Command Provost Section to embark on a tour of all police formations and barracks within the state with a view to identifying and shutting down all beer parlours within the police community.
“In the same vein, the Commissioner warns members of the public against offering policemen alcoholic drinks while on duty. He added that henceforth, any policeman found drunk on duty will be visited with a similar punishment,” he said.
