Nigerian pastor Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, who started Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, is in trouble for selling something he calls “Sand of Jerusalem” for $500 (about Ksh65,000). This is happening while there is still fighting in Israel.

Many people are angry because they believe he is taking advantage of people’s faith during a difficult time. Fufeyin claims this sand can help buyers “build a house or even a whole city”, which has led to accusations of him being dishonest and not caring about the ongoing war.

In a video that went viral, Fufeyin is seen in his church promoting the sand and saying it has special powers.

He told his followers, “With this Sand of Jerusalem, you’ll be able to build your house and a whole city just for yourself,” and encouraged them to buy it for $500.

A post about this on social media, which said, “This man will sell Jesus Christ to his church members soon,” got many reactions.

People are questioning the pastor’s sanity and asking why he would sell sand from a place that is currently facing war. Some are calling for the Nigerian government to step in and take action.

This controversy comes at a time when there are higher tensions between Israel and Iran, especially after recent airstrikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iranian nuclear sites, according to reports.

Critics say Fufeyin’s actions are very insensitive because Jerusalem is an important place in the Bible and is currently facing a lot of conflict. Others have criticised him, saying, “Pastor Jeremiah doesn’t care about Israel’s war; he’s busy selling Jerusalem’s sand.”

There are doubts about whether the sand really comes from Jerusalem, as its authenticity has not been proven, adding to the concerns about his claims.

Fufeyin is known for selling “miracle” items like spiritual soap and healing water, and he has faced similar complaints in the past. The Nigerian Advertising Regulatory Council looked into his practices in 2023.

Some of his supporters, however, say the sand is a “point of contact” for blessings from God. The price of $500 has shocked many people in Nigeria, where the minimum monthly wage is ₦70,000.
