Confusion In Unilag!! Babalakin: ‘You are Sacked’, Ogundipe: ‘I Remain The VC’ (see their memos)
Not too long ago, the Governing Council of the University of Lagos on Wednesday announced the sacking of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olawatoyin Ogundipe.
The sack was announced at a meeting of the Governing Council of the UNILAG held at the National Universities Commission in Abuja
While seven members voted for the removal of Ogundipe, four voted against it; one of them voted that the VC should rather be placed on suspension.
The meeting was chaired by the UNILAG Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of its Governing Council, Dr Wale Babalakin.
The development was confirmed in a statement obtained by our correspondent from the media aide to Babalakin, Mikhail Mumuni.
Thereafter, the management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has rubbished the public notice on the sack of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Odundipe.
The letter dated August 12, 2020, was signed by Oladejo Azeez, UNILAG Registrar.
Azeez is also the secretary to the governing council.
He announced that Ogundipe has been removed from office “with immediate effect.”
Interestingly, Ogundipe signed the rejoinder on behalf of the management.
In a terse statement made available, the VC declared that the council’s decision “is untrue and a figment of his imagination.”
Ogundipe advised staff, students, parents, guardians and the general public to “disregard the mischievous disinformation about the sitting Vice-Chancellor of Unilag, contained in that notice.”
The statement stressed that “Professor Ogundipe remains UNILAG’s Vice-Chancellor.”
More details have emerged in the sack of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.
He was accused of financial misappropriation, wrongdoing, gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Meanwhile, in a release signed by the Vice Chancellor himself, he insisted he remains the Vice Chancellor and advised that the release by the Registrar be disregarded
