It happened when racial discrimination against African American was at its peak and potent in USA. A clear example of discrimination against African American was the Rodney King case.
King was an African American taxi driver, the victim of Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) brutality, after a videotape was released of several police officers beating him during his arrest on March 3, 1991. A witness filmed the incident and sent it to a local station. It was broadcasted by major news media around the world. The four white officers were tried on charges of using excessive force but were acquitted.
This sparked civil unrests, rioting that lasted six days , during which 63 people were killed and more than 2,00 were injured. It is called 1992 Los Angeles riots. It took the US national federal guard to restore normalcy.
The LAPD investigated the celebrated case the OJ Simpson’s trial. It was a double murder that shocked the world and, at least technically, remains unsolved two decades later. American media called it a trial of the century. It was a sensational case that was conducted in the public glare, and shook the foundation of USA.
On June 12, 1994, police found the bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman outside Simpson’s Bundy Drive condo in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. Almost immediately, suspicion focused on the 35-year-old beauty’s ex-husband — football legend, actor, pitchman and all-around household name O.J. Simpson.
After a lot of drama, twists and turns in legal fireworks, a jury of nine blacks, two whites and one Hispanic delivered a not-guilty verdict.
Simpson was discharged and acquitted of murder charges of killing the two victims
