‘Auba is crazy!’ – Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang offers Dortmund fans apology

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has offered Borussia Dortmund supporters an apology for his actions in pushing for a transfer to Arsenal.
Aubameyang completed his £56million move to Arsenal earlier on Wednesday, signing a three-and-a-half year deal at the north London club.
The striker’s move brought an end to a turbulent few weeks at Dortmund. In mid-January he was dropped from the squad for disciplinary reasons, and was subsequently left out for another game as Arsenal pursued his signature.
Aubameyang had been dropped on two previous occasions since the start of 2016, and had hoped to leave the club last summer only to miss out on an exit.
Supporters turned on Aubameyang when he returned to Peter Stoger’s side on Saturday, holding up a banner proclaiming “no player is bigger than the club”.
The Gabon striker conceded that he had not acted in the right way, though he insisted he was not being malicious.
“First of all sorry for everything that happened last month,” Aubameyang wrote on Instagram. “But I wanted to move last summer, it did not work, but now it had to be.
“Maybe it was not the best way I chose, but everyone knows that Auba is crazy – and yes, I’m a crazy kid, hahaha! I’ve made mistakes, but never with malice.
“I will never forget these four and a half years at Borussia Dortmund, because you all gave me the strength for the level I am now.
“Thanks to the whole BVB family, the fans, the club, the staff and of course my team-mates!”
Dortmund themselves admitted to frustrations over what their sporting director Michael Zorc termed an “unpleasant” ending to Aubameyang’s spell at Arsenal, where he scored or provided an assist 172 times in 213 games.
